You may have visited a medical office and were treated by a Physicians Assistant and didn’t even realize it.  They do not have MD at the end of their name, but rather PA-C.

You are in good hands with a PA-C.  They can do most anything a doctor can do for you in a family practice setting.  So next time you visit the doctor’s office and you see someone that looks like a doctor, but has PA-C after their name you will know that they are a Physicians Assistant and you are in good hands.

If you are interested in becoming a physicians assistant and becoming certified then you will be competing with many students.  The thing about being a physicians assistant that is so appealing is that you don’t have to go to school for that long to actually practice medicine.  Yes, you will have a physician that you work under, but that really is more of a formality as you make medical decisions independently of the physician you are working under.

Also, you get the respect of the medical community much in the same way as if you were a medical doctor.  A physicians assistant work is very similar to a CRNP, but you don’t have to worry about someone calling you a nurse.  Actually the work both do are very similar.  If you want the respect you probably want to go for the PA-C.
